So many people ask me how to prepare for 70-573 TS SharePoint 2010 Development exam. 70-573 is a mixture of SharePoint 2010 skills around Object Model, Web Services, Dialog framework the new UI Components customization e.g Ribbon, Development Web Parts and navigation. Not many people I see around me and working on customizing Ribbons and Navigation elements and most of the time they are working on developing custom applications on top of SharePoint using Object Model, Visual Web parts, Localization, Workflows, BDC and Client OM etc. Because of this it becomes very hard for someone to prepare for SharePoint Exam that has so many things that one has never worked with.

Another problem I see personally in my region is the use of Dumps and cheating which make you pass the exam but eventually fail you when you come for an interview after your put that you are a Senior SharePoint Developer bla bla bla and you can answer any question about ribbon or client OM. You have to study very hard to pass in SharePoint Development Exam so you take the shortcut which will result in getting nothing for your career. some of you also face a problem that there is no straight forward way to find a study guide which can provide you a step by step preparation. Although some of SharePoint Guru’s have posted links on their blogs but sometime they are not enough. To make sure you are studying the things are covered by exam you need a tool. I was in contact with a company name uCertify few months ago that specializes in Exam preparation development. They sent me the preparation kit for 70-573 few weeks ago and my personal feedback is that if you are planning to take the exam it is the best thing to follow.

I remember when I took the exam my self in June 2009 while it was a beta exam I have to visit the objective page many times and look various items carefully so that I do not miss any exam point. Now Let’s talk about Exam Question Preparation. First of If you have good experience SharePoint 2010 and you are doing lot of Development I would strongly suggest you to take the diagnostic test. This will give you an idea on where you stand with respect to preparation and you can then work on the areas you are not good.

Now if you take the diagnostic test you will find out are you ready or not. Look and the Red Icon on the picture above. Now take the full exam and see where you stand. I quickly took couple of question in Diagnostics and check the result.

Now you see that I failed I just answered one question. Now if you have already finished the study then you can take all different kind of test to make sure that you are good enough to take the exam. But what about my performance review. no problem there is a third section called Track your progress that will make sure that you know what you are doing.

Now you can see where I stand in my test review Poor Dude right !

There is also a section for Objective Review that show the progress in Objectives according to exam.

Alternate languages are not supported on sites with customized CSS files.

Faced this issue after I upgraded a Site from SharePoint 2007 to 2010. The site was heavily customized and was using custom CSS and custom master page. The room site language was Arabic. As a normal case Most SP Admin guys like me here in Saudi Does not understand Arabic so went to change alternative language support. I selected English and click OK and saw a weird error waiting for me that is mentioned above in the title.

As I designed the master page from scratch with a new CSS file I did not find any reason for this error. But even looking at ULS Logs could not find anything reasonable. Then went on to find the article that says that you should delete the _style page if you want to enable Alternate language. You can find it here

Even removing that folder did not fixed the issues. I reset the CSS Link from Change Master Page setting page and set it back but nothing worked then I went on to install Language Pack SP1 and later SP1 but nothing seemed to work. Just before I was able to Quit got an idea. I Opened SQL Server Management Studio and went to query AllWebs Table and tried to find CustomCss column for all the webs. I was amazed to see that the CustomizedCSS column was showing ;123#MIZAN; for the root Site Entry while all other values are null. Although I could not find the source CSS on the site but setting the value to null and I was able to change the alternative language without any issue.

The 2007 Microsoft Office suite Service Pack 3 (SP3) and Microsoft Office Language Pack 2007 SP3 provide the latest updates to the 2007 Office suite and to Office Language Pack 2007. These updates include two main categories of fixes:

Previously unreleased fixes that were made specifically for this service pack. In addition to general product fixes, this includes improvements in stability, in performance, and in security.
All the public updates, security updates, cumulative updates, and hotfixes that were released through September 2011.

Because Office service packs are cumulative, you do not have to install Service Pack 1 or Service Pack 2 before you install Service Pack 3. Service Pack 3 includes all fixes which were included in Service Pack 1 and Service Pack 2.

Couple of days back I received the full version of Microsoft SharePoint 2010 Pro Exam 70-668 exam Kit from UCertify (http://www.ucertify.com/). As most of you know that 70-668 Exam is considered difficult to pass as Exam is bit different than 70-667. 70-667 is configuration exams for Administrations but 70-668 Requires very good understanding of SharePoint 2010 Concepts like Upgrade and deployment. The exam is built as Scenario Based where you have to read a Detailed scenario which is based on customer requirements. Then there are questions on each scenario. Based on my personal experience the study requires more efforts.

I found UCertify Kit very valuable to pass this exam. First of all the exam objectives are mentioned very clearly.

There is a long list of Study notes that will help you prepare the exam step by step.

Each study note consists of the step to master it and try it and then
