A Question about MS Project and Project Server
Dear Omeri,
I am sorry for the late response because I was busy in my work and family. I called you few times but you were not available on your seat. Any way here is the answer to your question.
Project Professional 2003 is a desktop tool that provides you a complete schedule engine that is required to create a project plan. The Items are used in any project plans are Tasks, Resources, Work/Duration, Cost, Calendars etc. Although we can enable limited email collaboration while working with the desktop tools of project professional but it does not provide any method to track or monitor the project plans the web.
Project Server 2003 is a central repository to store all the projects, resources, costs, tasks, and timesheets. It also provides other collaboration facilities like Notifications and reminders which help you stay in touch with your project. Project also provides enhanced capabilities by using SQL Server analysis services which helps you in analyzing your project current and historical data. It does not provide any schedule engine but stores all the project information from project profession to a SQL server database.
Project Web Access is a Web portal that provides you access to project information as per roles in the projects. It provides a rich UI which can be used to analyze project data using Pivot tables and charts. It also provides facility to track timesheets and status reports. The roles provided by project web access are Team Members, project managers, Executives, portfolio managers, resource managers and administrators.
The above mentioned technologies are part of Microsoft Enterprise project management (EPM) solution. I hope I have answered your question. In case you are confused please do let me know.

Subject: MS Project Professional 2003
Hi Yasir,
I was going over a blog that you had written regarding the difference between MS Project Standard 2003, and MS Project Professional 2003. I am currently involved with a resource tracking / allocating project, and hence your blog piqued my interest.
If I understand you right, Project Professional allows the capability to manage resources over a web portal- in which case I should be able to save all resources in a common resource pool on the web, and schedule multiple projects simultaneously in multiple Project Professional sessions. Do you agree? Is MS Project Server 2003 required for me to obtain this functionality, or is MS Project Professional sufficient?
Your response will be greatly appreciated.
Regards,
